I came in this afternoon to find Michael packing his little suitcase. "Mommy, Mommy! We don't have to live here anymore!"
"What is it Mijo," I asked, "are we being sent to the island again?"
"No," he replied, nearly beside himself with excitement, "Aunt He-Man says the Scary Lady's going to sleep forever, and we're moving away from Mumble Daddy and Stare Daddy! And we get to take the baby with us! I love Aunt He-Man, she's the best aunt ever!"
I went downstairs to find out what this was about. Mr. and Mrs. Morgan were arguing. At least, I think that's what they were doing. Neither one is tremendously articulate, so it's kind of hard to tell sometimes.
"Me care kids." Mrs. Morgan thumped her chest.
"No! Me care kids! No take kids!" Mr. Morgan looked like he might thump his chest as well, but he settled for blinking a couple of times.
Then he continued: "Me tell Sonny! Sonny no like! SONNY!" he bellowed, then looked around in confusion. "Where Sonny?"
Mrs. Morgan pointed to the phone. "Sonny no here. Magic voice in there."
I crept back upstairs to help Michael finish packing. Eventually Mrs. Morgan came in, grabbing Michael by the arm so hard she brought tears to his eyes. "We go now. Sonny say OK."
Trying to distract her before she broke my poor son's arm, I told her we were just about ready. "Why don't you go get the baby?"
At that, her protruding brow softened and she let go of my son. "Baby," she sighed. "Me love baby." She stumbled off to the nursery, mumbling, "Baby mine, no Carly's." I offered a quick prayer that Mrs. Morgan never develop any serious affection for Michael.
On our way out of town (where were we going? I still had no idea. Does anyone tell me these things?) we stopped at the hospital to say goodbye to Mr. and Mrs. Corinthos. Mr. Corinthos was at his wife's bedside, telling her that if she would wake up, she had his permission to buy whatever she wanted. Wow, I thought, that's her reward for getting shot in the head? How romantic.
Mr. Corinthos told Michael to say goodbye to Mrs. Corinthos. "Hi Scary Lady," he said, "since you fell asleep, Mumble Daddy is never home, Stare Daddy smiles sometimes when he holds the baby, and Aunt He-Man lets me drink protein shakes at every meal. Now my mommy and I are leaving to start a new life. Please don't wake up."
